Tobacco named after Robert Burns' ballad 'Afton Water'. The tobacco is sealed inside a multi-laminate pouch for freshness. Made by P. J. Carroll and Co. Ltd., Ireland. Medical research, which linked tobacco smoking with a lengthening list of health hazards including lung cancer and heart disease, led to active measures to reduce cigarette use. Manufacturers responded to anti-smoking measures by offering reduced-tar cigarettes. Restrictions on tobacco advertising in the UK led to alternative marketing methods such as sending free gifts to smokers.
