The plastic Barbie doll, made by Mattel, introduced in 1959, was still popular at the end of the twentieth century. Variants of Barbie and dolls similar to it, were aimed at specific sections of the community. Barbie's critics, however, claim that her unrealistic body shape is to blame for anorexia in girls and young women.
