Dinky die-cast toys were made by Meccano. Toys and games made after the Second World War reflected the changing social climate as Britain became increasingly affluent. In the 1960s the toy industry prospered through its ability to mass-produce metal and plastic toys. Most of the demand in the new consumer-led market resulted from the impact of television and cinema in generating mass markets for licensed products. Meccano made Dinky Toys, such as this 'Thunderbird 2' and Lady Penelope's pink Rolls-Royce 'Fab 1', inspired by Gerry Anderson's (b.1929) 'Thunderbirds' series.
