This saw has a strong metal back which prevents the relatively thin blade from bowing. Craftsmen's hand-tools from the middle of the twentieth century look little different from the same tools used 100 years earlier. They continued to be used by the professional trades, as well as serious amateurs who may have acquired some technical training or workshop practice.
