Object:Tin glazed earthenware dish, French, 1793-1850

Dish depicting the execution of Louis Capet in 1793. Earthenware is the earliest known type of pottery and is still made today. Relatively coarse and porous, it is usually glazed. There are two main types of glaze; a transparent lead glaze, which is applied over the decoration and an opaque tin glaze, which is applied with a built-in decoration. Dimensions: 40 mm x 243 mm.
