This is a simple domestic clock which was not expected to keep very good time. It had an hour-hand but no minute-hand, and was set to time daily by comparison with more accurate devices such as sundials. Production of lantern clocks decreased during the eighteenth century as the popularity of more accurate long-case or grandfather clocks increased. Front view.
